Sochi will be the first Russian city to host an Olympic or Paralympic Games as the 1980 Olympic Games were held in the Soviet Union. Approximately 250 of Team USA's finest athletes competing over 17 days across 98 medal events, with events starting on Feb. 6. Less than two weeks later, nearly 60 U.S. athletes will compete in Sochi at the Paralympic Winter Games across 72 medal events. The Olympic Games are the most important sporting event in the world. Hundreds of athletes prepare for it their whole lives and those who make it to the Olympic podium become an example to millions of others. With the 2014 Olympic Winters Games competition beginning on Feb. 6, it will mark the first time in history that a Winter Games have started events before the Opening Ceremony (Feb. 7).
