It has been shown by doctors worldwide that the traffickers are breaking laws intended to stop these illegal activities and are benefiting from the increased demand for replacement kidneys which in turn is being driven by the increase in diabetes worldwide. Patients, many of whom go to China, India and Pakistan for risky surgeries, will pay up to USD $200,000 for a kidney to gangs who harvest organs from vulnerable, desperate people, sometimes for as little as USD $5,000.
